Training on the Use of Mendeley for the Preparation of Bibliographies of Scientific Papers

Abstract

In today's digital era, proper reference management is essential in writing scientific papers. For students, lecturers, and researchers, a properly compiled bibliography not only shows the credibility of scientific work, but also maintains academic integrity. However, many people still experience difficulties in compiling bibliographies manually, which is often time-consuming and prone to errors. One solution that can help is the use of Mendeley, a reference management application that allows users to compile bibliographies automatically and accurately. This application is very useful in managing references and facilitating citations in various standardised scientific writing formats. However, many students, lecturers, and researchers have not utilised Mendeley to its full potential, either due to lack of knowledge on how to use it or limited technical training available. As part of the community service programme, training on the use of Mendeley at the Department of Animal Husbandry of Pangkep State Agricultural Polytechnic was organised to address this issue. The training aimed to help students make better use of technology in the scientific writing process. The training also provided an opportunity for participants from various regions to access materials without being limited by distance and time, given the education system that is increasingly dependent on online technology. Through this training, student participants of the Pangkep State Agricultural Polytechnic's Animal Husbandry Department will gain a better understanding of how to manage references using Mendeley, as well as acquire practical skills that can be directly applied in writing their scientific papers. It is hoped that this training will not only improve the technical capabilities of participants, but also strengthen a technology-based academic culture and scientific integrity, so as to encourage the improvement of the quality of scientific writing at the tertiary level.
